Idiom
稗官野史
- anecdotal history; romances; books of anecdotes
- 稗官野史雖小道,必有可觀,求其實耳。今以閩人言閩事,以今日之人言今日事,而舛錯謬誤且至於此;然則史氏之是非,其迷亂於稗官野史之紀載者不乏矣! [Literary Chinese, trad.]
- From: 1723, 藍鼎元,《平臺紀略》自序
- Bàiguānyěshǐ suī xiǎodào, bì yǒu kěguān, qiú qí shí ěr. Jīn yǐ Mǐn rén yán Mǐn shì, yǐ jīnrì zhī rén yán jīnrì shì, ér chuǎncuò miùwù qiě zhìyú cǐ; ránzé shǐshì zhī shìfēi, qí míluàn yú bàiguānyěshǐ zhī jìzǎi zhě bùfá yǐ! [Pinyin]
- Though anecdotal histories may be reckoned minor, they more or less offer valuable insights, as long as you seek the true parts within. Yet, when natives speak of local affairs or contemporaries discuss current events, errors and inaccuracies are still prevalent. Thus, it is evident that there must have been a number of historians misled by the accounts found in these anecdotal recordings.
