Etymology

Ultimately from Middle Chinese 機運 (MC kj+j hjunH, literally “opportunity, chance + fortune, luck”), although possibly a learned borrowing from modern written Chinese 機運 / 机运 (jīyùn). First cited to the early 1800s.[1]
