- Jin Midi had gotten up to go to the toilet, but feeling suddenly uneasy in his mind, he entered the emperor's chambers and sat down beside the door to the inner bedroom. Before long, Heluo crept in from the eastern verandah, with a dagger concealed in his sleeve. When he saw Midi, he turned pale and made a dash toward the bedroom door, hoping to get at the emperor, but he stumbled over a large and elaborately decorated zither and fell to the floor. Midi managed to fling his arms around him, at the same time exclaiming, “Mang Heluo has risen up in revolt!”

- Ts'ao Ts'ao claimed that whenever anyone wants to threaten him, he always feels a presentiment of it in his heart. Accordingly he said to one of his underlings with whom he was intimate, "Hide a dagger in your bosom and come stealthily to my side. I will, of course, say that I feel a presentiment in my heart and have you seized and executed, but for your part, don't say a word about having been asked to do it, and nothing more will come upon you. I shall reward you generously."
