Related to மழுங்கு (maḻuṅku), மக்கு (makku), மழு (maḻu), மாழ்கு (māḻku). Cognate with Kannada ಮಗ್ಗು (maggu), Malayalam മങ്ങുക (maṅṅuka), Telugu మగ్గు (maggu).
