ਮੋਹ

Punjabi

Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit [script needed] (mōha, delusion, folly; love), from Sanskrit मोह (moha), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *máwǰʰas, from the root *mawǰʰ- ~ *mawgʰ- (to err, to be foolish, to deviate), with further origin uncertain, possibly a loan from the BMAC substrate. Cognate with Sindhi [script needed] (mohu, love), and Japanese 馬鹿 (baka, fool, noun).
