Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gc /⁠gač⁠/, plaster, gypsum), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅎𒌓 (IM.BABBAR /⁠gaṣṣu⁠/, gypsum). Compare Khotanese [script needed] (gatsä, gypsum), Arabic جَصّ (jaṣṣ, plaster), Classical Syriac ܓܨܐ (gaṣṣā, plaster) from the same source.
