Inherited from Middle Ukrainian бли́зкїй (blýzkyj), from Old East Slavic близъкъ (blizŭkŭ), from Proto-Slavic *blizъkъ, from *blizъ. Cognate with Upper Sorbian bliski, Polish bliski, Czech blízký, Old Church Slavonic близъ (blizŭ), and Russian близкий (blizkij).
