The Conservative (Lovecraft)/January 1917/When New-Year Comes
When New-Year Comes
When New-Year comes into your home
And smiles upon you with its cheer,
Turn then your back upon the gloam
Of all that in the past was drear.
Roach out your hand and grasp the new,
And let the old go as it will.
And drink Life's cup of sweeter brew--
Forget the draught that tasted ill!
Draw to your heart the tendrils fair
Of Friendship, such as never dies;
And give to others share for share
Of Love that charms and glorifies.
Tears may be yours, and anguish, too,
And hours of darkness and of pain,
But God will give, dear friend, to you,
The sunshine after sorrow's rain!
