Taskforce launched as search for Gus Lamont expands in South Australia's north

Police have launched a taskforce to search for August "Gus" Lamont in his family's station in the mid-north of South Australia, according to South Austrailian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens. The taskforce, announced October 14 and entitled Taskforce Horizon, will consist of specialists who would resume investigations into the situation.

Israeli naval ships intercept Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla

Israeli naval forces began intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla on the night of October 1 about 70 nautical miles west of Gaza. By October 9 at least seven of the more than 450 people detained remain in custody, according to Israeli media reported. This flotilla is made up of civilian volunteers from various countries and aims to deliver humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza. Israel commented the interceptions were part of a "lawful naval blockade".

Unification Church leader Hak Ja Han arrested in South Korea over bribery allegations

Hak Ja Han, the leader of the Unification Church in South Korea, was arrested early September 23. Investigators accuse the church of bribing the first lady of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, Kim Keon Hee, as well as conservative lawmaker and MP Kweon Seong-dong.

Country music songwriter Brett James dies in North Carolina plane crash

On September 18, American country music singer, songwriter, and record producer Brett James died in a plane crash in a wooded area in Franklin, North Carolina. James co-wrote Carrie Underwood's song Jesus Take the Wheel, a collaboration that, according to the BBC, brought him wide attention.

On September 16, New York Judge Gregory Carro dismissed two of the charges related to terrorism against Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of Brian Thompson. Carro stated prosecutors had not provided sufficient evidence to support the terrorism-related charges.
