This page lists all Federation starships that are available for members to request as commands in the current era of Bravo Fleet, the early 25th-century. For information on how to request a command and which ships are available at which ranks, consult the Logistics Office Policy. While all of these classes are in service, not all of them are still in production, so consult the individual article for specific production dates. Information about older vessels can be found in the Retired Federation Starships category. Classes are grouped together by their type, which determines their overall intended function.

Explorers

Explorers are very large vessels, capable of extended duration, independent missions, either alone or leading smaller vessels, equivalent to the battleships of other powers. Sub-types of explorers include long-range explorers, intended for missions well-beyond Federation space, and heavy explorers, which are the equivalent of dreadnoughts of other cultures and are intended for flagship roles.

Heavy Cruisers

Heavy cruisers are large generalist starships capable of undertaking any of Starfleet's core missions on behalf of the Federation, generally within Federation space. Sub-types of heavy cruisers include exploratory cruisers, larger heavy cruisers equivalent to the battlecruisers of other cultures, emissaries, intended for diplomatic functions, research cruisers, intended for large-scale scientific research, and light explorers, which are cruisers with extended range for deep space assignments.

Light Cruisers

Light cruisers are generalist starships capable of undertaking any of Starfleet's core missions on behalf of the Federation, generally within Federation space or in support of an exploratory group. Sub-types of light cruiser include utility cruisers, which function in logistics support roles, science vessels, intended for research missions, and fast cruisers, intended for rapid response roles.

Destroyers

Destroyers, sometimes known as tactical cruisers, are medium-sized tactically-capable vessels geared towards independent deep space reconnaissance and tactical missions. Sub-types of destroyers include heavy escorts, intended to lead groups of escorts or frigates, and carriers, which have large small craft complements.

Frigates

Frigates are exploratory support vessels that serve alongside larger starships in both generalist and specialist capacities. Sub-types of frigates include escorts, intended for combat roles, heavy frigates, which have additional engineering support capabilities, and medical frigates, i.e. hospital ships.

Scouts

Scouts are small, fast starships used for reconnaissance and courier missions within and outside of Federation space, often travelling ahead of explorers. Sub-types of scouts include corvettes, which have significantly smaller crews, and surveyors which are specialized for planetary and stellar surveys.
