Xenologic classification

A xenologic classification was a type of classification for lifeforms. The system was in use by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century.

As an example, a certain non-atmospheric organism encountered by the USS Discovery during the first Federation-Klingon War was said to have the xenologic classification Gormagander. However, it also had a different xenologic classification: Federation species 283732. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

Its classification as a "Gormander" comes from dialog, while the number comes from a display screen.
