White noise

White noise was a type of sound frequency.

In 2151, Trip Tucker dismissed a signal picked up by Shuttlepod 1's receiver as "white noise. The sound of the galaxy laughing at us." (ENT: "Shuttlepod One")

The term could also be used to describe the end result of several sounds combining to make one indecipherable blur. In 2376, Seven of Nine described the billions of voices present in the Borg Collective as producing white noise. (VOY: "Survival Instinct")
