Verbal interplay

Verbal interplay was a form of back-and-forth communication where words and actions would influence each other.

In 2374, when Tova Veer remarked on the lack of vasodilation in the skin of Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres while the couple exhibited "courting behavior" (aka flirting), Forra Gegen replied, "Obviously they never evolved that ability, which would explain their reliance on crude verbal interplay."
