Vela
Resembling the sails of a ship, Vela was a constellation visible from Earth's southern hemisphere. Astronomical objects in this constellation were located in the Beta Quadrant. (PIC: "Disengage")

The name of this constellation was derived from Psi Velorum's Bayer designation. In Bayer designation, the name begins with a Greek letter followed by a genitive of the constellation's name.
Until 1763, this constellation was a part of the larger constellation Argo Navis.
