Vasso L'Gaelia

Captain Vasso L'Gaelia was a R'ongovian diplomat who commanded the flagship of the R'ongovian Protectorate, an antiquated solar sailship used only for ceremonial occasions, in the 23rd century.

In 2259, Vasso represented the Protectorate in negotiating a potential alliance with the Federation. He first dealt with Tellarite Ambassador Q'Ral where, in keeping with the R'ongovian practice of radical empathy, he was rude and argumentative as a Tellarite would be.

Vasso subsequently traveled to Starbase 1, where he and his first officer Brax met Starfleet representatives for further talks. Vasso behaved in a friendly fashion during the first session with Humans Admiral Robert April and Captain Christopher Pike, and in a logical fashion during the second session with half-Vulcan Lieutenant Spock. Both times, his counterparts again failed to recognize and reciprocate his demonstration of empathy. However, Vasso was impressed by Pike defending Spock's place in Starfleet, and allowed him to make a final summation.

Pike, having realized the nature of R'ongovian empathy, showed that he understood their point of view by openly voicing their concerns about associating with the Federation. Vasso only thanked him and departed, but then ordered the flag of the Federation flown from his ship, indicating that his people accepted the Federation's offer of alliance. (SNW: "Spock Amok")

In 2261, he returned to Starbase 1 for the Federation Day Centennial celebrations as the R'ongovian delegate. (SNW: "Wedding Bell Blues")

Vasso was played by Ron Kennell.
