Shepherd captain

This captain commanded the Shepherd ship encountered by the USS Enterprise in 2259.

This captain came across the Enterprise attempting to prevent the comet C/2260-Quentin, which he referred to as the Arbiter M'hanit, from impacting Persephone III. The captain interceded and threatened to destroy the Enterprise if they interfered with the comet any further. The Enteprise’s captain, Christopher Pike explained that their intentions were not hostile and that M'hanit was about to impact an inhabited planet, and they were trying to divert its trajectory. The Shepherd captain called that explanation "absurd" since the M'hanit's course was preordained. The captain stated that his people had been charged with protecting their "arbiters" for as long as they could remember and it was no one's prerogative to interfere, When Pike argued against allowing the planet to be destroyed, the captain insisted that diverting the arbiter would be an act of war. The situation resolved itself when the comet seemed to divert its course naturally. The captain remarked to Pike that perhaps the Federation would not be so quick to judge the faith of others, and now, they need not part as enemies. (SNW: "Children of the Comet")
