In 2372, Hanok used a vessel of this type when he met with Benjamin Sisko and Quark aboard the USS Defiant in a distant part of the Gamma Quadrant. Two Jem'Hadar fighters happened upon the meeting and began attacking Hanok's ship. Outgunned by the Jem'Hadar, the ship fled into the atmosphere of a nearby Class J gas giant.

The Defiant pursued, but was damaged by the Jem'Hadar weapons. After the Defiant's main power was restored, and the two enemy ships destroyed, the Defiant rescued the Karemma crewmembers and brought them back to Deep Space 9, though their starship had to be abandoned. (DS9: "Starship Down")
