Twine

Twine was a strong thread made from twisted strands. In certain folklore, it was believed to be able to stop spirit folk from shape-shifting.

In 2376, Tom Paris and Harry Kim were both tied with red twine by the people of Fair Haven to prevent such a metamorphosis. (VOY: "Spirit Folk")
