A trapping pit was a pit trap built into the ground as a technique for capturing an animal or Human.

In 2270, Leonard McCoy, Nyota Uhura, and Hikaru Sulu were in the recreation room testing out a simulation with a trapping pit. (TAS: "The Practical Joker")
