One starship towing another

Towing was the process of linking and pulling one immobile object behind another mobile object. Common towing devices included towing cables and tractor beams.

For a starship to tow another limited the tow ship's available power. The USS Enterprise experienced this dilemma when it had both took on the mass of one freighter's cargo of quintotriticale and we forced to tow the second freighter. Such as task, according to Spock, "require[d] a great deal of power we wo[uld]n't be able to use in battle." (TAS: "More Tribbles, More Troubles")
