Intonation (linguistics)

In linguistics, the intonation or tone of voice was a particular range of pitch used to express an individual's emotion or attitude while speaking to others.

In 2268, Cyrano Jones noted that he was mystified at James T. Kirk's tone of voice. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")
