A lone Human blocks tanks in Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square was a city square located in China on Earth.

In the late 20th century, a lone Human blocked a convoy of tanks in this square.

After Jonathan Archer restored a damaged timeline, this event could be seen in the time stream as the timeline realigned itself. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")

In the 24th century, the Federation starship USS Tian An Men was named after this square. (TNG: "Redemption II")

Background information

The Chinese expression Tianaman (天安门) translates into English as "Gate of Heavenly Peace" and is the main square of Beijing, the present day capital city of China.

Since this clipping was shown in a resetting time stream of the "proper" universe, it is safe to assume that the "in-universe" event shown is identical to the "real world" one.

The clipping seen in the resetting time stream was actual news footage from the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, where a protester single-handedly, quite literally, stopped a column of Chinese Type 59 tanks in their tracks on 5 June, when they advanced on the protesters gathered in the square, in the process becoming part of the imagery that defined the 1980s decade. The identity of this defiant protester has to this day remained unknown/unconfirmed, and he is presently simply known as "Tank Man". Many protesters however, did die during the protests, and it was therefore that the Starfleet vessel was named after the square to honor the victims according to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 397.
