The Monkees

The Monkees was a classic rock band from the 20th century. One of their songs was "I'm a Believer."

In 2380, when asked about her favorite music, Barnes told Sam Rutherford that The Monkees was high on her list. He jokingly told her, "I'm a believer." (LD: "Second Contact")

The Monkees band was created specifically for NBC's The Monkees, which debuted on 12 September 1966, four days after the premiere of Star Trek: The Original Series.
Gene Roddenberry stated that the character of Pavel Chekov was created in response to the popularity of singer Davy Jones of The Monkees. [1] Chekov actor Walter Koenig concurred, "The Davy Jones thing is quite true. They were looking for somebody who would create the same kind of following that Davy Jones and The Monkees had. And I've never met him, but I don't think we would look that much alike, or we would even then, but there was that sense that I was cut from the same image, which is quite ironic because I'm probably at least ten years older than he is."
