- The story for this issue (and issue #4) is an adaptation of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Galileo Seven".
- The events of this story contradict James T. Kirk's later statement in Star Trek Into Darkness that he did not lose any crew members during his first year as captain of the Enterprise.
