Tarod

Tarod was a formerly inhabited planetary system in the Beta Quadrant. This system was located in Sector 3-0, a spatial region in the Beta Quadrant, and was on the Federation side of the Federation-Romulan border.

This was a binary star system with an orange primary and a red companion.

In this system, there were at least nine planets, including Tarod IX, which was home to a Federation outpost in the 24th century. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone"; PIC: "Disengage")

History

In 2364, the Borg entered this system and destroyed the outpost on Tarod IX. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone", "Q Who")

Stellar cartography

In 2259, the location of this system was seen on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Federation. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy"; PIC: "Disengage")

This star system was only mentioned in writing.
In the episode "Disengage", the location of this star system was seen on the bridge of the SS Eleos XII on what appeared to be an updated chart from Star Trek: Star Charts. Dave Blass published pictures of the set on his website.
In the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 66) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the stars of the system were classified as a K-class star and a M-class star.
