A synopsis was a shortened description or version of a longer work.

In 2152, Trip Tucker excused himself from Feezal Phlox's company, saying Captain Jonathan Archer wanted him to write a synopsis of the horror film that was being screened on Enterprise NX-01 that night. (ENT: "Stigma")
