Sulfide
A sulfide is an anion of sulfur (S2−). Examples of sulfides include ammonium sulfide, disulfide, hydrogen sulfide, and nitrogen sulfide.
In 2364, upon the discovery of what was later determined to be the sentient inorganic microbrain, Doctor Crusher ran a spectral analysis in order to determine the composition of the being. The analysis determined that it was be made up of silicon and germanium, making it a transistor material; gallium arsenide, meaning that it emitted light when charged; cadmium selenide and sulfide, meaning that it emitted charge when lit; and water, impurities, sodium salts, meaning that it was a conductor.
From those results, the computer was able to make a positive determination that it was indeed life. (TNG: "Home Soil")
