A subtitle was text shown at the bottom of a movie that provided a translation of the character's speech into an alternate language.

In 2152, Malcolm Reed encouraged Hoshi Sato to remain for a screening of The Wages of Fear in Enterprise NX-01's mess hall, saying they might need a translator, given the rapidity of the film's subtitles. (ENT: "Vox Sola")
