Stirrup

A stirrup was a foothold, usually attached to a saddle, that allowed one to climb up onto a riding animal.

In 2371, Miles O'Brien, while guiding Jake Sisko to open the hatch of an ore processing area, told him to look for a handle shaped like a stirrup. (DS9: "Civil Defense")
