Star Trek - 3 Movie Collection (Blu-ray)

The Star Trek – 3 Movie Collection is a Blu-ray Disc triple pack set, released in November 2016, collecting the single-disc Blu-ray releases of Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond.

The regular Region A release came with its discs mounted in a slimline plastic reinforced foldout booklet within a cardboard slipcover, whereas the regular UK Region B releases had each of its discs mounted in their own individual standard plastic snapcases, which were stored in a cardboard slipcase. Two slipcase cover design variations were circulating for the Region A releases of which the one pictured below was the rarest.

Germany saw a "Three Movie Collection" variant release the following month as the repackaged limited six-disc "SteelBook®" edition, with the majority of the special features separated from the main films on separate discs. Confusingly, the release featured the cover art from the Star Trek: The Compendium Blu-ray released two years earlier, falsely suggesting that the complete contents for the first two films on that release were included on this one, which was not the case; only the contents of the regular (two-disc) releases were included. Nonetheless, in this the German and French six-disc releases were actually still superior to the other three-disc "3 Movie Collection" releases, specifically where Star Trek was concerned, as these only featured the contents of the regular, "vanilla" single-disc releases without the extras for Star Trek.

Near-identically packaged Region A releases had preceded the German one in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea on 25 October (actually the very first release of the set), 11 and 22 November respectively, though they only contained the standard three-disc version, [1] whereas a French Region B six-disc version followed suit on 17 December.

While marketed as region-restricted, the releases are in actuality region-free as this has increasingly become commonplace for the Blu-ray format.

Background information

  • The SteelBook variant release has also served as the format for the limited UK retailer exclusive Blu-ray 3D counterpart release.
  • This release is one of the few individual Star Trek releases followed by the professional industry site The Numbers and for which domestic (US and Canada) home video format sales are known; The Numbers has reported that by August 2021 domestic sales had been realized of US$3.7 million for both this and its DVD-counterpart releases, [2] after which sales came to a virtual standstill in the wake of the Star Trek Trilogy: The Kelvin Timeline release three years later.
