Standard observation posture

Standard observation posture was a position assumed by a starship so that a spatial phenomenon could be witnessed.

In 2367, William T. Riker ordered that the USS Enterprise-D move to standard observation posture so the crew could study a spaceborne lifeform they had come across. (TNG: "Galaxy's Child")
