Springer is a global publisher of academic books and journals that published The Realization of Star Trek Technologies in 2016 and Set Phasers to Teach!: Star Trek in Research and Teaching in 2018.

Founded in Berlin in 1842 by Julius Springer and his son Ferdinand, the company grew, expanded, and changed ownership over the years coming to be known as Springer Science+Business Media. In 2015, Springer Science+Business Media merged with academic publisher Macmillan Science and Education (which included Nature Publishing Group). The merged company was branded as Springer Nature, which maintains Springer as an active publishing brand. [1]
