Spoken language
Spoken language was the verbal auditory expression of a language.
The Cairn, a telepathic species, had no concept of spoken language. In 2370, Lwaxana Troi was teaching some of them how to speak, using a vocal enhancer. She recommended that USS EnterpriseD crew help them practice by conversing with them. She also introduced young Hedril as her star pupil, the girl having picked up speaking quicker than any of her other students. (TNG: "Dark Page")
In 2372, a Sky Spirit told Chakotay that his people initially had no spoken language. (VOY: "Tattoo")
