Introduction
Since the beginning of Star Trek, the Vulcans have captivated fans perhaps more than any other species.
Vulcan
Vulcan is described as the only inhabited world circling 40 Eridani, a geologically unstable planet with few roads between the well-planned major cities, and making heavy use of protective fencing to keep out predatory animals.
History
Vulcan was a planet of crime an corruption, cities making heavy use of atomic weapon on each other until the age of Surak and his followers.
It is noted that Vulcan considered Earth off-limits until the Human race had contacted the inhabitants of Alpha Centauri, a first contact later contradicted by Star Trek: First Contact. The reader is encouraged to also look into the stories of "two Vulcans that had landed on Earth years earlier," in the Pocket TOS novel "Strangers from the Sky".
