Specialty

A specialty was an area of expertise or particular interest. One whose career centered around their specialty was known as a specialist.

In 2365, when talking to Geordi La Forge, Data told him, "Your Starfleet specialty is antimatter power, dilithium regulators., to which La Forge replied, "That's exactly why this fascinates me, Data. You see, it's Human nature to love what we don't have. Simpler days, huh? Anyway, stringing this rigging has made me dream of handling sails." (TNG: "Elementary, Dear Data")
