A sound machine was a machine that produced various sounds for sleep-aid purposes.

In 2063, Zefram Cochrane listened to the Steppenwolf song "Magic Carpet Ride", and the singer mentioned how he liked to dream "right between [his] sound machine." (Star Trek: First Contact)
