Detmer using a skipping rope

A skipping rope was a tool for exercise consisting of a length of rope with handles attached to each end. Holding the rope with both hands, the individual jumped as they swung the rope over and under their body in a continual rhythm. For extending the life of the rope and for shock absorption from the jumping, an individual would use an exercise mat.

In 3189, aboard the USS Discovery, Lieutenant Keyla Detmer exercised with a swinging rope in the ship's gymnasium. She paused in her exercising when Doctor Hugh Culber conducted a medical scan on her, then immediately resumed her activity. (DIS: "Forget Me Not")
