Sinkhole

A sinkhole was a hollow area in the ground formed by the collapse of the soil underneath the surface.

Sinkholes were a feature of Karst topography. The duck blind on Mintaka III was surrounded by sinkholes, among other features. (TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers")

Certain spatial phenomena were also described as sinkholes. (VOY: "Gravity", "The Fight")
