Sigma Erandi system

The Sigma Erandi system was an inhabited planetary system. This system was located somewhere in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant.

When the USS Enterprise-D purchased hytritium needed on Beta Agni II from Kivas Fajo in 2366, Fajo told the crew that the next closest source of hytritium was Sigma Erandi, but he could not guarantee they had any on hand. The system was, also, three weeks away from the Enterprise-D's current position, so the USS Grissom, the Starfleet vessel closest to Sigma Erandi, was informed to stand by in case more hytritium was needed. In 2371, the location of Sigma Erandi was labeled in the star chart Data and Picard were studying in stellar cartography aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (Star Trek Generations, okudagram)

Background information

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 279, StarTrek.com, and Star Trek: Generations spelled this system's name as "Sigma Erandi". The episode's script and dialogue suggested the name to be "Sigma Erani".

"SIGMA eh-RAN-ee" was the pronunciation for this system's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]

Based on the structure of their name, both Sigma Erandi and Gamma Erandi were stars in the same constellation.

In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Sigma Erandi would be the 18th brightest star in its constellation.
