Settlement (law)

A settlement was an agreement that ended a dispute and resulted in the voluntary dismissal of any related litigation.

In 2269, Surak agreed with James T. Kirk that the Excalbian illusions were not worth fighting, saying "The captain speaks wisely. Those four are not our enemy. We should arrive together at a peaceful settlement." (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")

While considering the Ansata's actions, Data questioned if "terrorism is acceptable when all options for peaceful settlement have been foreclosed?" Captain Jean-Luc Picard assured him many people had asked the same question over the years. (TNG: "The High Ground")
