A seismologist was a scientist who studied earthquakes.

In 2370, curious as to why Jason Vigo had been exploring caves, Jean-Luc Picard asked him whether he was a seismologist. Vigo then claimed he enjoyed rock climbing. (TNG: "Bloodlines")

In the Julian Bashir, Secret Agent holoprogram, seismologists determined that several earthquakes were artificial. Honey Bare was one of the leading members of her field. (DS9: "Our Man Bashir")
