According to lines in the script of the Star Trek: The Next Generation second season episode "The Schizoid Man", but not the final episode, the USS Enterprise-D picked up a distress signal from Sector 35 mark 7. The signal was from the colony ship Mary Rogers. There were no other ships of any kind in the sector.

For the final episode, there were no references to the sector and the name of the colony ship was changed to USS Constantinople.
