Secret police

The secret police was a type of intelligence or police agency that focused on the suppression of domestic enemies.

The Tal Shiar was referred to by the Federation as the Romulan secret police. (PIC: "Maps and Legends")

Other organizations that filled secret police roles include the Gestapo of Earth and the Cardassian Obsidian Order.
