Seal (mechanical)

A seal was a device that prevented leakage between a rotating shaft and a stationary housing, or between two elements that were moving relative to each other.

In 2366, Duffy was checking on some containers on a pallet, and he informed Geordi La Forge that there was a broken seal. (TNG: "Hollow Pursuits")
