Rufus Hearn was the makeup lab technician for the Proteus Make-up FX Team during their work on Star Trek.

Hearn constructed props and models for the 1996 films Beyond Desire and Space Truckers before becoming a hair technician on Face/Off (1997, featuring John Carroll Lynch, Robert Wisdom and Harve Presnell) and Windtalkers (2002, starring Holmes R. Osborne, Jason Isaacs and Christian Slater). He also created props for the 1999 video game Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, which featured Nicholas Worth.

Hearn also did prosthetic and makeup effects work for the 2006 film Hood of Horror, featuring Jason Alexander and Tucker Smallwood. He was also a special effects makeup artist on the independent film Changeling, featuring Nikita Ager.
