Originating as the publishing business of nineteenth century bookseller George Routledge, the company grew, expanded, and changed ownership over the years. In 1996 it was acquired by European private equity firm Cinven [1] then later in 1998 by UK academic publisher Taylor & Francis. [2] In 2004, Taylor & Francis merged with publisher and conference company Informa which maintains both Taylor & Francis and Routledge as brands in its academic publishing division. [3]
