Reeds in water

A reed was a type of aquatic plant native to Earth.

During Admiral James T. Kirk's time travel experience as the HMS Bounty performed the slingshot effect around Sol, he experienced a vision of reeds in the water. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

This imagery was re-used in the Psychotronic stability examination in TNG: "The Schizoid Man".

In 2367, while reading a scene from the play Cyrano de Bergerac, Beverly Crusher, as Roxane, recalled how Cyrano used to make swords from the reeds. (TNG: "The Nth Degree")
