Realism was the concept of making art that looked like the real object being portrayed.

In 2259, when Brad Boimler met Spock, Una Chin-Riley and La'An Noonien-Singh on their side of a time portal; before passing out, he told them "You guys look... very realistic." (SNW: "Those Old Scientists")

In 2370, admiring Data's clay sculpture of a PADD, whose dimensions were accurate to within 1.3%, Deanna Troi commented that he had no problem with realism. (TNG: "Masks")
