Rat (humanoid species)

Rats were an otherwise unnamed species of rat-like humanoids who shared a planet with a species of lizard men.

In late 2380, Ensign Beckett Mariner toppled the statue of a rat leader with a Argo-type ground vehicle in the name of the lizards' freedom to bask, during what she was believed was an attempt to root out injustice by freeing the oppressed lizards. The rat leader, however, argued that the lizards were "[...] not oppressed. We raise them as food. They-they like it."

Moments later, Captain Carol Freeman beamed down and apologized, citing the Prime Directive and that "Starfleet is forbidden from interfering in your planetary politics. You will be free to determine your future without our influence." Mariner was chastised for her actions, as Freeman had to then "explain why there [was] an interspecies war on a planet that was peaceful yesterday!" (LD: "Crisis Point")

According to Lower Decks co-producer Brad Winters, "FYI: there are absolutely no Anticans or Selay in Ep 109. Those were dog people that ate snake people, which is ridiculous. These are rat people that eat lizard people. Very different." [1]
