Quantum Creation FX
Quantum Creation FX, Inc. is an American effects company which specializes in the creation of animatronics, costumes, makeup effects, props, and prosthetics for the film industry.
The company was founded in 2005 by Christian Beckman and Justin Raleigh, former employees of the now-defunct makeup effects company Edge FX, Inc., and is based in Burbank, California.
It is not associated with Quantum Mechanix's QMx FX Cinema Arts division in any manner.
Association with Star Trek productions
For 2009's Star Trek film, the company provided six space helmets, six space parachute backpacks, and Sulu's (hero and stunt) retractable swords. These creations were featured in the scenes atop the Narada's drill platform above Vulcan and were fabricated by ten artisans and technicians over a very short four-week build schedule. [1]
Other work
Since its inception, Quantum has provided makeup effects for such films as Southland Tales (starring The Rock, John Larroquette, Holmes R. Osborne, and Wallace Shawn), Click (featuring makeup effects by Jamie Kelman and Clinton Wayne), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006, starring Kelsey Grammer, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn and Patrick Stewart), I Am Legend (featuring Salli Elise Richardson and Paradox Pollack), and The Happening (2008, featuring Alan Ruck). They also worked on Threshold, the short-lived CBS series produced by André Bormanis, Brannon Braga, David Livingston, and Michael Sussman and starring Brent Spiner.
In addition to their work on Star Trek, the company has also built specialty costumes and prosthetic suits for Watchmen (2009, featuring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Matt Frewer ). It later created prop weapons, specialty costumes, and fake bodies for Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009, starring Rachel Nichols).
